Ann Arbor Independent Community Police Oversight Committee Review of $1.4M Missing Funds From Sheriff's Sale
This post reviews the follow-up complaint filed with the Ann Arbor Independent Community Police Oversight Commission (ICPOC) regarding the missing $1.4 million from the Bank of Ann Arbor Sheriff’s sale. After reviewing the updated police report related to an earlier complaint, it became clear that the investigation did not fully address the disposition of the funds.
Investigators declined to obtain financial documentation from the Bank of Ann Arbor necessary to trace the missing proceeds. As a result, a second complaint was filed with ICPOC concerning the inadequate investigation. To date, no report addressing that follow-up complaint has been made publicly available.
The City of Ann Arbor maintains a publicly accessible FOIA database, which indicates that the FOIA request related to the second complaint was “granted.” However, no corresponding report has been provided, creating a discrepancy between the FOIA database entry and the actual documentation.
This post highlights ongoing questions regarding transparency and accountability in the handling of the Sheriff’s sale proceeds, and the role of oversight bodies in ensuring thorough investigations.
