Recording: Duaa Altaee Discussing Sexual Harassment with University of Michigan HR (NIH Grant Project)

In 2015, Duaa Altaee, a University of Michigan research coordinator, spoke with Human Resources after reporting sexual harassment within the Department of Radiology on an NIH-funded research project. Duaa initially reported the conduct to the lead research coordinator, who referred the matter to Vice Chair of Research Dr. Isaac Francis. Dr. Francis concluded that the reported conduct met the criteria for sexual harassment and referred the matter to Department Chair Dr. Reed Dunnick.

Dr. Dunnick subsequently met with Duaa Altaee. During that meeting, he referred to Duaa as “racially ambiguous.”

In the recorded conversation with Human Resources, HR stated that no formal investigation would be conducted (at the 3:40 mark) and later repeated that position during the same conversation.

The recording provides a contemporaneous account of the University's response to Duaa Altaee's report of sexual harassment within the context of an NIH-funded research project.
