Dr. Bradley Foerster and Dr. Myria Petrou 2018 Letters to Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein Concerning Alleged Russia-Gate-Related Statements by Dr. Paul Cronin

For context regarding later federal investigative records and related proceedings, below are January 31, 2018 and May 18, 2018 letters submitted by Dr. Bradley Foerster and Dr. Myria Petrou concerning alleged Russia-Gate-related statements attributed to Dr. Paul Cronin, then an associate professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan.

The January 31, 2018 letter was submitted to Special Counsel Robert Mueller following communications with FBI personnel in Detroit concerning alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, alleged links between the Trump campaign and Russia, and related allegations involving money laundering through Cyprus.

The later May 18, 2018 letter, submitted to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Special Counsel Robert Mueller, provided additional detail concerning alleged statements by Dr. Paul Cronin during conversations occurring in late August and September 2016, before the public release of the Steele dossier. According to the letter, Dr. Cronin allegedly stated that:

  • Donald Trump was pursuing business interests in Russia prior to the 2016 election;
  • Vladimir Putin and Russian intelligence services possessed compromising material concerning Donald Trump;
  • WikiLeaks and Julian Assange were involved in disseminating hacked material damaging to the Clinton campaign;
  • the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian intelligence services;
  • and Russian money laundering activity was occurring through Cyprus and the United States.

The May 18, 2018 letter further states that Dr. Cronin allegedly admitted providing false testimony to federal agents concerning aspects of the reported information.

The correspondence also references meetings and interviews with FBI and HHS-OIG personnel in Ann Arbor during early 2018, including FBI Special Agent Susan Lucas and HHS-OIG agent Tyson Howard.

At the time these letters were submitted, Dr. Foerster and Dr. Petrou did not know whether the reported information was true, but were advised by counsel to report the statements and provide supporting documentation and testimony to federal investigators.

The letters below are reproduced as part of the broader documentary chronology surrounding the underlying federal and institutional record.
