Unredacted FBI Complaint and Interview Reports on Dr. Petrou and Dr. Foerster Based on Complaint by Maria Petrou, Mother of Dr. Petrou — University of Michigan FOIA (Jan–Feb 2018)
In a September 2019 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) response, the University of Michigan produced unredacted internal Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reports dated January–February 2018 concerning Dr. Myria Petrou and Dr. Bradley Foerster, after both had resigned from the University.
This was the first time Dr. Petrou and Dr. Foerster became aware that Myria Petrou’s mother had contacted the FBI.
The reports document FBI activity in early 2018, including a January 26, 2018 complaint submitted by Myria Petrou’s mother (Maria Petrou) and a February 1, 2018 follow-up interview of Maria Petrou.
These materials do not include the January 30, 2018 complaint submitted to the FBI in Detroit by Dr. Petrou and Dr. Foerster, which is presented separately (see: FBI Interview — Detroit Field Office ).
The documents are marked “Do Not Distribute” and appear to reflect raw complaint intake and interview summaries, rather than adjudicated findings.
The presence of unredacted FBI records within a public university is notable in itself. These materials predate adverse employment actions and exist independently of the federal FOIA litigation now confirming a broader FBI file.
While the substance of the reports reflects unverified third-party allegations, their existence, dissemination, and unredacted form are significant. At minimum, they establish that federal investigative materials were present within the University of Michigan during the same period in which federal complaint activity and interviews were occurring.
The following pages are drawn from the University of Michigan’s 2019 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) response, which included unredacted FBI reports relating to Myria Petrou and Bradley Foerster. These materials were produced by the University as responsive records and are presented here as received.

FBI Reports (January–February 2018)
Note: The following FBI records were produced by the University of Michigan in response to a 2019 FOIA request. The documents are presented in full for reference and review.
FBI report dated January 31, 2018, marked “Do Not Distribute.”
FBI follow-up report dated February 2, 2018.
Why These Records Matter
These records are significant not because they establish adjudicated findings, but because they document the existence and circulation of unredacted internal FBI materials concerning University employees within the University of Michigan itself. They also predate subsequent employment actions and exist independently of the federal FOIA litigation confirming a broader 500+ page FBI file.
