Dr. Myria Petrou Submits Supplemental Materials to D.C. Bar Counsel Concerning Timothy Lynch, "Nick," and Russia-Gate Issues

On June 1, 2026, Dr. Myria Petrou submitted a supplemental filing to the District of Columbia Office of Disciplinary Counsel concerning a previously submitted complaint involving University of Michigan Vice President and General Counsel Timothy G. Lynch. The supplemental submission includes correspondence seeking clarification regarding the University's handling of matters involving "Nick," the October 1, 2018 Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) memorandum, communications between University officials and federal investigators, and records that remain withheld from public release. The submission also includes a November 17, 2018 letter from Dr. Bradley Foerster to University leadership concerning Russia-Gate allegations.

The chronology underlying the submission begins in 2017, when University of Michigan Office of General Counsel personnel reviewed communications and recordings attributed to "Nick" and undertook efforts to identify the individual responsible. On October 1, 2018, OIE issued a memorandum documenting allegations attributed to "Nick," efforts to identify the source of those communications, and related investigative activity within the University. On November 17, 2018, Dr. Foerster submitted correspondence to University leadership concerning recorded statements he attributed to Dr. Paul Cronin regarding a Russian effort to influence the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

The June 1, 2026 correspondence notes that recently released FBI records now document a federal investigation that remained active through at least 2021. At the same time, important records remain unavailable, including withheld Russia-Gate memoranda authored by Associate General Counsel Christine Gerdes and communications involving FBI Special Agent Sue Lucas. As a result, questions remain regarding what information was provided to federal authorities, what communications occurred between University officials and investigators, and whether additional records exist concerning matters involving "Nick" and Russia-Gate allegations.

Against that backdrop, Dr. Petrou requested clarification regarding whether the University ultimately identified the individual responsible for the communications and recordings attributed to "Nick", whether Dr. Foerster's November 17, 2018 correspondence or related materials were provided to the FBI, whether communications occurred between University counsel and federal investigators concerning these matters, and whether any follow-up investigation concerning "Nick" was conducted.

The November 17, 2018 correspondence reflects that Dr. Foerster raised Russia-Gate-related concerns with University leadership following issuance of the October 1, 2018 OIE memorandum and sought formal institutional review.

Together, the materials document an unresolved chronology involving "Nick," the October 1, 2018 OIE memorandum, Russia-Gate-related communications, federal investigative activity, and records that remain unavailable despite years of subsequent proceedings, FOIA requests, and litigation.

The supplemental submission states that copies were provided to Timothy G. Lynch, President Domenico Grasso, and the Regents of the University of Michigan for their information and awareness.
