From Initial Reports to Russia-Gate and Subsequent Requests for Clarification: Dr. Myria Petrou Submits New York Attorney Grievance Complaint Concerning University of Michigan General Counsel Timothy Lynch

On June 1, 2026, Dr. Myria Petrou submitted an attorney grievance complaint concerning University of Michigan Vice President and General Counsel Timothy G. Lynch to New York attorney disciplinary authorities.

The complaint arises from a series of communications attributed to an unidentified individual known as "Nick," who made false criminal and sexual-misconduct allegations concerning Dr. Myria Petrou, and from the University's subsequent handling of those matters between 2017 and 2026.

The submission presents a chronology beginning with reports concerning "Nick" in 2017 and continuing through communications involving the University of Michigan Office of General Counsel (OGC), review by the University of Michigan Office for Institutional Equity (OIE/Title IX), EEOC proceedings, HHS-OCR referrals, accommodation requests, resignation-related events, subsequent University communications, and later requests for clarification regarding unresolved issues and records that remain unavailable through University FOIA processes.

The complaint also addresses OGC referrals to the University of Michigan Police Department that resulted in FBI involvement, Dr. Bradley Foerster's November 17, 2018 submission to University leadership concerning Russia-Gate-related issues, and subsequent questions regarding communications between University officials and federal authorities.

The full complaint and accompanying exhibits are available below:

According to the complaint, records reviewed by Dr. Petrou reflect repeated requests for review and investigation through multiple University channels over a period of several years.

The complaint further describes OGC review of communications and recordings attributed to "Nick," efforts to identify the individual responsible for those communications, subsequent FBI investigative activity, and correspondence submitted to University leadership concerning Russia-Gate-related matters.

The chronology concludes with the University of Michigan Office of General Counsel's March 22, 2023 position that:

“No matters involving Nick will be investigated by me or by any other officials at the University.”

The complaint requests review of Mr. Lynch's conduct in his capacity as Vice President and General Counsel of the University of Michigan.

The complaint is accompanied by supporting exhibits obtained through litigation, FOIA requests, administrative proceedings, and contemporaneous correspondence. The materials are provided below so that readers may review the underlying record directly.

November 17, 2018 Correspondence to University Leadership

During his Rule 5.09 proceedings concerning his proposed dismissal, Dr. Bradley Foerster, an Associate Professor (with tenure) in the University of Michigan Department of Radiology and the husband of Dr. Myria Petrou, submitted the following correspondence to Executive Dean Carol Bradford and other University leaders.

In the letter, Dr. Foerster informed University officials that Dr. Paul Cronin had described a Russian scheme to subvert the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election and requested the University's assistance in ensuring that the matter could be addressed through a controlled, documented, and safe process involving appropriate witness testimony and institutional review.

Dr. Foerster submitted the November 17, 2018 correspondence as part of his Rule 5.09 proceedings concerning his proposed dismissal. At the time, attorneys from the Office of General Counsel, including Gloria Hage, were present during the proceedings. The correspondence is referenced in the complaint above and is provided below as a supporting exhibit.
