AAPD Case 17-3517: Seventh Search Warrant Targets Google Accounts of Dr. Paul Cronin and “Nickbee” — Absent from 2017 and 2018 Disclosures (August 17, 2017)
On August 17, 2017, the Ann Arbor Police Department obtained a seventh search warrant in Case 17-3517, directed to Google for email accounts associated with Dr. Paul Cronin and an individual identified as “Nick” (“Nickbee”).
The warrant followed the May 30, 2017 Bank of Ann Arbor search-warrant affidavit, in which Detective Bradley Rougeau had incorporated allegations attributed to “Nick” that Dr. Cronin had forged financial documents concerning Dr. Myria Petrou and Dr. Bradley Foerster, and that Dr. Petrou and Dr. Foerster were extorting Dr. Cronin for money and attorney fees.
The August 17 warrant sought subscriber information, email communications, and associated IP address records, including email content dating from April 1, 2017. Detective Rougeau's supporting affidavit identified the investigation as involving allegations of embezzlement and extortion.
The Seventh Warrant Was Missing from Earlier Disclosures
In fall 2017, following a complaint filed by Dr. Petrou and Dr. Foerster against Ann Arbor City Attorney Thomas Kent, the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission provided six AAPD search warrants and their supporting affidavits. The August 17 Google warrant was not among them.
After AAPD closed Case 17-3517 in spring 2018, Dr. Petrou and Dr. Foerster obtained the investigative file through FOIA. The seventh warrant was again absent.
A subsequent FOIA request produced the August 17 Google search warrant, but not the records obtained through it. Those records were released separately in 2020, including email communications attributed to “Nick Bee” concerning Dr. Cronin, Dr. Petrou, and Dr. Foerster.
