AAPD Case 17-3517: Dr. Paul Cronin Denies Knowing “Nick” or Recognizing Recorded Voice Under Oath — Loans, Attorney Fees, and Extortion Allegations (June 20, 2017)
The following excerpts are taken from the June 2017 deposition of Dr. Paul Cronin and concern allegations involving an unidentified individual referred to as “Nick” or “Nick Bee” — allegations that later appeared across University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Police Department, Office of Institutional Equity, and federal investigative records.
The testimony includes questioning regarding recordings attributed to “Nick,” whether Dr. Cronin recognized the voice contained in those recordings, whether he knew anyone using that identity, and whether he had communicated with such an individual concerning Dr. Bradley Foerster or Dr. Myria Petrou.
Additional portions address recordings attributed to “Nick,” allegations involving extortion, and Dr. Cronin’s sworn responses during questioning.
The recordings referenced during the deposition were later incorporated into Ann Arbor Police Department investigative materials and subsequent University of Michigan records.

AAPD Case 17-3517 — Initial Request by Maria Petrou to Prosecute Drs. Bradley Foerster and Myria Petrou, April 2017 Recording, Withdrawal of Prosecution Request, “Nick” Criminal Allegations, and Renewed Prosecution Request by Maria Petrou (2017)
On February 1, 2017, Maria and Petros Petrou told Detective Bradley Rougeau that they wished to proceed with the AAPD investigation and would pursue prosecution of Dr. Bradley Foerster and Dr. Myria Petrou if criminal activity was uncovered.
In April 2017, Duaa Altaee recorded a conversation with Maria Petrou concerning the ongoing investigation. During the conversation, Maria Petrou stated, “What can I do? If they want to go to jail,” and Duaa Altaee responded, “But this is not criminal Maria.”
Maria Petrou subsequently asked Detective Rougeau to drop the case, citing the stress of the investigation and a desire to return to Cyprus. Detective Rougeau advised that other aspects of the investigation remained active.
During this time, Detective Rougeau had obtained recordings attributed to an unidentified individual known as “Nick.” The investigative report documents criminal allegations attributed to “Nick” concerning Dr. Paul Cronin, including claims that Dr. Foerster and Dr. Petrou were extorting Dr. Cronin for money and legal fees.
As shown above, on June 20, 2017, Dr. Paul Cronin testified under oath that Dr. Cronin did not have a friend named “Nick” and did not recognize the voice attributed to “Nick” in the recordings.
Eight days later, on June 28, 2017, attorney Jim Reach contacted Detective Rougeau and reported that, after consulting with Maria and Petros Petrou, the couple was again interested in pursuing criminal prosecution of Dr. Foerster and Dr. Petrou.
